Microcurrent Technology

What is it and how does it work?

The body uses very small amounts of current to increase cell wall permeability, stimulate critical protein production and promote ATP ( natural biochemical energy ) availability. This helps to promote cellular healing and facilitates many metabolic processes.

When soft tissue (skin, tendons, ligaments, bone) are damaged, many of these functions cease to work, or to work properly.

By introducing these minute, cell specific currents of electricity from an external source (MicroVet), thus mimicking the bodies endogenous "electrical circuitry", the healing process is both kick-started and accelerated, the first step towards regenerative repair.

The currents within the treatment programmes are those which have been found to perform particular functions within the body at cellular level.

Benefits of causing healthy electrical changes at a cellular level

MCT is sub sensory and cannot be felt while it is being delivered because there is not enough current to stimulate the sensory receptors.
MCT increases ATP production by 500%.
ATP is the primary molecule from which our body produces energy, and it is found in every cell of the body.
MCT was also shown to increase protein synthesis and amino acid transport.
MCT applied to injured tissue supports the natural current flow in the tissue, allowing cells in the traumatised area to regain their capacitance, or flow of electrons.

Traditional electrotherapy units such as TENS, Interferential and Galvanic deliver current in milliamps, which is a higher level of current.
They can cause muscle contraction. Micro-current cannot.

Trauma affects the electrical potential of the damaged cells. The injured area has a higher electrical resistance than the surrounding tissue. This decreases electrical conductance through the injured area, and decreases cellular capacitance, leading to impairment of the healing process and inflammation. When this micro-current therapy (MCT) is applied, resistance is reduced, allowing bioelectricity to flow through and re-establish normal function. This process helps to initiate and perpetuate the many biochemical reactions that occur in healing.
